Vincent Zierigen: Senior Software Engineer

Renovatio Cloud Solutions encompasses an especially unique and talented team devoted to its mission of being the most people-centric company in the world. Behind every project detail, design and feature is a Renovatio team member who continuously strives to influence the lives of others through software and technology. Renovatio redefines what it means to build custom mobile apps not only by their exceptional services but by their team member core values. This month we will highlight one of the key members who enables Renovatio's vision of empowering others to become a reality.

Meet Vincent Zierigen:

"Learn, it's all I wanna do, so one day I can really improve this version of the World."

Vincent works behind the scenes out of Renovatio's Costa Rican office as a software programming mastermind. He loves to share his knowledge with anyone who is willing to learn.

Can you describe a typical work day?

"A typical day of work starts with my morning programming yoga, which is always good, due to the fact that a developer spends over 6 straight hours just sitting. After that, I get my morning tea and sit down to code. While coding, I also check email, read news and keep up with the current world that surrounds me."

How did you get involved in software engineering?

"Since I was 5 (when I got my first computer), I knew this is what I wanted to do. There’s still lots of fields that I would like to explore, I just hope that I have enough life to do it."

"I got involved in programming when I was 12 years old and I made my first website. I really didn’t know that much about coding until I was 15 years old when my mom gave me a Sony Clié (a handheld device that was powered by Palm OS). That small computer made me want to create new programs for it. I made a calculator first, then I made a simple image gallery and then I made a chat, which I used to talk with other friends of mine who had Palm OS devices while in class, haha. I gotta say, it did give me an advantage on my teenage years because in high school I used to look for information online regarding the topic the teacher was explaining. I do believe it helped to mold my brain into a fast learning machine."

What are some important traits that software engineers should have?

  • "Selfless. Share all the knowledge you can share with as many people as possible. We live in a community and the more we learn from each other, the better we will get collectively."
  • "Adventurous spirit. Do not be afraid of learning about new technologies or ideas, learn as much as you can of anything, nothing in this life is useless."
  • "Strong soul. Do not get discouraged by what others might say about the way you are, think or feel. If you feel good about who you are and what you do without harming anyone, stick to it. You will not only succeed but you will be happy."
How would you describe the Renovatio team?

"The Renovatio team is a team dedicated to their passion and the success of the company. I consider myself to be a good 'searcher' of souls but I could not find any better if I tried. From the interns, to the developers, to the core team, all of them represent what I believe in a company: good hard working people with a common goal of improving this world by making valuable work."

What things have you learned so far at Renovatio that you would tell a new team member?

"Don’t mess with me. Even though I’m a good dev and a good person, I quickly learn who’s there to work and who isn’t. When it comes to work I’m quite strict and I would not recommend to any team member to mess with my work ethics. The client is always first, always. Keep them happy and I guarantee you, they’ll keep you more than happy with awesome work and challenges any dev craves."

If you could tell someone one thing they didn't know about your job, what would it be?

"You will lose some sleep but I gotta tell you, it’s worth every second. For those addicted to life like me… we don’t wanna sleep because we might miss something: an idea, that line of code that will not only help your software become faster but also that moment of insanity where everything is as clear as the light of day."

Hobbies and interesting facts about Vincent:

  • Survived 62 hours of programming
  • Suffered a blast craniocerebral trauma when he was 2, causing a 40% blood loss

  • Plays guitar and sings in his free time
  • "Do as much exercise as I can, though sometimes it is hard due to time (one must  keep both equally trained, mind and body. It is not one or the other, it’s a balance)."
